What to Expect on Sundays
Here's what a typical Sunday morning looks like in 5 steps.
Arrive
Join us at 10:30AM at the Wyndham Garden Hotel located at 700 Monticello Avenue in downtown Norfolk. We have a pretty laid back culture, and people come dressed however they are comfortable. After turning into the hotel, look for Port City signs. As you make your way to the lobby you’ll be guided by our signs and one of our people will greet you.
Have Kids?
Jesus loves kids and so do we! At Port City Kids we have a fun and Christ-centered time with kids 0-4 during service, and Kindergarten-5th grade during our Equip hour from 9:00-10:00AM. We love having those older kids with us during service, and getting to invest in their discipleship during the Equip hour. In addition to having fun and teaching about Jesus, we are committed to safety and background check all of our volunteers.
Singing
Every Sunday we gather to make much of Jesus together at Port City Church. Our music is theologically informed, emotionally engaging, and contemporary in style. We stretch ourselves to seek out worship that engages those from different cultural backgrounds. On any given Sunday you will hear some contemporary and gospel worship songs and modern versions of historic hymns that we put our spin on. We typically sing four songs on a Sunday morning.
Bible Teaching
We love God’s Word. You’ll find a Bible under every seat (keep it as a gift if you don’t own one). Before each sermon, someone reads the passage aloud because we want God’s Word to be the hero of our Sunday mornings. Our preaching is engaging, expositional, and gospel-centered as we walk through books of the Bible to see how it’s all about Jesus and changes our everyday lives. The service runs 75-80 minutes.

Once the service ends, we encourage you to meet somebody and get connected. The first step to getting connected with Port City is to fill out a Connect Card at our New Here table. We have a gift for you and would love to hear your story. From there, Starting Point is the best next step.
